Communications Generalist

The Te’mexw Treaty Association is looking for a driven, organized, and dynamic individual to join our team as a Communications Generalist. This role will support our communications work by creating content for multiple social platforms and supporting community engagement.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for communication, a keen eye for detail, and a flexible schedule to accommodate community events. The successful candidate will support the development and execution of social media content and assist in fostering relationships with online audiences and in-person engagement while maintaining consistent brand communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create engaging, relevant, and timely content to grow and maintain our online social media channels (Facebook, Instagram).
  • Monitor and respond to interactions with followers on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, ensuring a positive community engagement.
  • Design and create eye-catching posters and social media posts using platforms like Canva.
  • Develop creative visuals to promote campaigns, events, and other initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to align social media efforts with broader campaigns, events, meetings and organizational goals.
  • Plan, design, and send email campaigns (MailChimp, Brevo), newsletters, and updates to our audience. Ensure all email communications align with our branding and goals.
  • Review and proofread content for social media, emails, and other communication materials. Ensure all materials are clear, accurate, and free from errors.
  • Transcribe audio or video content from community meetings as needed for social media or other communication purposes.
  • Assist with organizing, promoting, and supporting 3-4 community events per month. This includes event promotion, in-person or virtual event support, and any other necessary tasks. A flexible schedule is required for this aspect of the role.
  • Ensure the website and all resources are updated on a regular basis and perform plugin/software updates as needed.
  • Assist with other communication-related activities and community events as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exposure and knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) and content management tools,
  • Familiarity with design software such as Canva, and knowhow of creating email campaigns and digital content.
  • Excellent proofreading and copy-editing skills, along with the ability to transcribe audio/video content accurately, are essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences are a must, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Event coordination skills or experience in similar areas will also be an asset.
Training, Education, and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Conditions

The position is full-time, based primarily in the Main Office (1500 D Admirals Rd., Victoria). Regular travel is required for meetings, events, and training, with occasional out-of-town travel. Flexibility for occasional weekend and evening work is required for community meetings or workshops. Salary Range is $22.00-$24.00 per hour, depending on experience.
