Communications Consultant

50th Parallel Public Relations is hiring a Communications Consultant to work with our team on a project-by-project basis. The successful candidate will hold the position of Communications Consultant and collaborate with our Account Leads to provide communications solutions, well written copy, social and traditional media assets, and strategic content for an array of clients. We work with Indigenous communities, non-profit organizations, government agencies and purpose-driven private companies to support communications efforts.
50th Parallel Public Relations is currently hiring for multiple contractor roles as well as building a contact list for future projects. While the future of our team is in our Victoria office, remote positions are a possibility for the right candidate within BC. Contractor roles are by necessity remote, but present the opportunity to scale into a full-time employment position as we grow our in-house team so proximity to the Victoria office is an asset!
The ideal candidate will be available for at least 20 hours a month and available evenings and weekends to meet tight deadlines should the need arise.
As we grow, our contractors are often our first choice to scale our in-house team. So, as you can expect we work closely together and are interested in a long term working relationship with the right individual.
Working with the team at 50th Parallel Public Relations Inc., your responsibilities might include:
- Collaborating with the in-house team with clear communication, collaboration and project management to meet the clients needs and strategic objectives
- Preparing reports, presentations, correspondences and other materials related to PR and marketing materials.
- Come up with bright ideas and solutions – if a project isn’t working, work with an account associate or manager to develop a solution.
- Proactively anticipate needs of accounts and have the ability to move projects forward.
- Providing support with client project in your areas of expertise, more specifically:
- Strategic Communications
- Media Relations
- Copywriting
- Copyediting
- Audio/Video Editing
- Podcast production support
- Script writing and storyboards
- Social media content creation
- Evaluating and providing insight regarding the effectiveness of communications activities.
- Assisting in maintaining and writing website content, including identifying target audiences, content and tactics to drive increased traffic.
- Assisting in tracking and reporting on media outreach activities.
- Executing the development of strategies, policies and plans that support the communications and engagement efforts of our clients.
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of communications experience in a creative agency, media outlet or similar organization.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- A keen eye for detail and ability to proofread and copy-edit.
- Proven experience in responding and rapidly adapting to changing business needs.
- Strong work ethic, motivated, flexible and enthusiastic.
- Familiarity with project management software (we use Monday)
- Understanding of the production process from concept to project completion an asset
- Understanding design principles, as well as video, podcast and photography production, is an asset
- Understanding of the importance culture and protocol when working with Indigenous communities is an asset
- Bonus: Background in marketing/branding or agency experience
- Bonus: Professional photography, audio/video editing, podcast recording and script writing, interviewing
